Quote on Colour Photography

Sat May 2, 2009, 10:35 AM
I'm writing my dissertation for my photography module, looking at Bill Brandt, Ansel Adams, Fay Godwin and (my favourite) Joe Cornish. I have found a quote in the Ansel Adams book that I think fits Joe Cornish's work perfectly, or at least he achieves this quote.

“Irving Penn … said that the colour photographers skill ‘must be used to keep the fantasy of perfection always fresh and desirable, to open his lens on the world for all to see and marvel at.’”

Callahan, Harry, M., Ansel Adams in Colour, ( Canada: Little, Brown & Company, 1993) p.20

I would love to achieve this with my photography. I'd love to be able to take photos like Joe Cornish, I wonder if he'd let me be his assistant when I finish uni?

Hmm Well my subscription ran out. Think I may invest in a new one for summer and use it more. I get 5 months off ^___^ It's been a very hectic term. First year is NOT supposed to be this much work!

I'm quite disappointed with the course in a couple of areas. I took it because of the photography module and the teaching there is not all I thought it was going to be. Apparantly the tutor for next year is evil. So I'm sticking to 2D and 3D modules instead and pursuing Photography in my own time. There's rumours of an illustration module going round for next year. This interests me greatly, although I suck at drawing >_>

ANYWAY more photographical productivity ensuing when all my coursework's been handed in.

Dreaming of White Christmas ... Still!

Journal Entry: Fri Dec 26, 2008, 11:17 AM

Update

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! I stupidly got my hopes up for mountains of snow to magically fall overnight for Christmas Day, but yet again England disappoints. The snow will probably turn up in February or March as always, a few months too late! Anyway, in wishful thinking here are a few Christmassy/snowy pictures which helped wisk my imagination away to a more seasonal place!

Feature: Splendid Snow Scenes!

Two very different sides to Christmas ... interesting contrast!

Long time, no update!

Journal Entry: Sun Dec 21, 2008, 5:08 PM

Update

Gosh I haven't updated since MAY! That's appauling. Well I've had my excuses. I was very heavily depressed at uni in Nottingham and have since left there to start again on a different course at London Metropolitan doing a Design course which is AMAZING but the work load is intense!

Due to the summer spent working to pay of my horrendous debt and trying get out of my depression (which has been greatly improved but if anyone knows anything about hypnotherapy that's an avenue I want to explore as not much else seems to work), my photography has suffered and been put on hold. Now I'm back for Christmas (and dont officially start again till February) I really want to get back into my photography. So please excuse the next few entries as they may be me trying to find my feet once again.

Hope everyone is doing well. I'm going to be doing a typical Christmas/Winter feature here on boxing day so if you wish to enter in this please head on over to the thumb share forums and post away :D

Seasons greetings and festiveness to you all
